QuickLogic Expands eFPGA Capabilities for GlobalFoundries 12LP Process
San Jose-based QuickLogic has upgraded its embedded FPGA (eFPGA) Hard IP for the GlobalFoundries 12LP platform, introducing a design that scales beyond 250,000 look-up tables. The release targets compute-heavy sectors, including aerospace and wireless infrastructure, by integrating advanced signal processing and real-time reliability monitoring features.
The updated architecture introduces a high-performance Multiply-and-Accumulate unit equipped with SIMD functionality and cascade connections, specifically designed to handle complex imaging and radar algorithms. Beyond raw processing power, the company has prioritized system integrity through an optional Configuration Bit Health Monitor. This feature identifies and corrects errors caused by Single Event Upsets while the logic remains active, a critical requirement for high-reliability environments.
Andy Jaros, vice president of IP sales, noted that SoC developers are increasingly seeking post-tape-out hardware flexibility without compromising the power or area efficiency of traditional ASICs. By embedding programmable logic directly into the silicon, designers can modify critical interfaces and algorithms after the manufacturing process is complete. QuickLogic supports this workflow through its proprietary Aurora and AuroraPRO software suites, which manage the transition from RTL to final bitstream. The company will showcase these enhancements at the GlobalFoundries Technology Summit in Santa Clara on September 2, 2026.
