IBM Ventures Backs BQP to Accelerate Physics Simulation Software

Syracuse-based BQP has secured a strategic investment from IBM Ventures, bringing the physics acceleration firm's total funding to $8 million. The capital injection targets the scaling of BQPhy®, a software platform designed to resolve complex physics simulations within real-time operational decision windows using existing GPU infrastructure.

The partnership deepens a relationship established in 2023 when BQP joined the IBM Quantum Network. While traditional physics solvers often leave approximately 85% of GPU floating-point capacity idle due to memory-bound constraints, BQP’s engine leverages this unused potential. The company’s flagship product, QuantumNOW™, integrates into standard engineering workflows like MATLAB, Python, and Julia, allowing teams to maintain high-fidelity modeling without sacrificing speed.

BQP’s trajectory has accelerated significantly since its 2025 seed round, with contracted revenue growing eightfold and the customer base tripling. The company is currently deploying its technology across aerospace and defense sectors, including contracts with the U.S. Space Force and the Air Force Research Laboratory. By compressing complex models, BQPhy® has demonstrated the ability to propagate thousands of space objects in under a second—outpacing open-source alternatives by orders of magnitude.

Beyond space and defense, the firm is applying its simulation engine to commercial energy applications, such as thermal management for EV batteries. As BQP continues to develop QuantumMAX™, its quantum-native solver, the company positions its software as a seamless on-ramp for organizations transitioning toward hybrid quantum-classical computing. According to Emily Fontaine, Global Head of IBM Ventures, the investment reflects confidence in BQP’s ability to deliver quantum-accelerated results without requiring engineers to overhaul their existing technical toolsets.
