Fulcrum and Woolpert Link Lidar Data to Utility Field Crews

A new partnership between Fulcrum and Woolpert aims to bridge this gap, integrating lidar-based risk scores directly into field operations to prioritize work where it is most needed.

Most power utilities operate without a real-time, condition-based view of their infrastructure, leading to frequent outages and increased wildfire risks. Woolpert addresses this by using advanced lidar and imagery to build precise 3D models of utility corridors, scoring vegetation risk down to individual spans and canopies. By integrating this data into Fulcrum’s field operations platform, companies can move from inefficient, cycle-based maintenance to a data-driven model that targets the highest-risk zones first.
Crews now receive prioritized, actionable data on their devices, allowing them to execute tasks and record completion in real time. This workflow transforms field reports into structured data, providing utilities with a defensible audit trail for regulators. According to Mike Lambert, Chief Product Officer at Fulcrum, the integration ensures field teams and office staff view the same current picture, minimizing guesswork at the pole. Woolpert Market Director Sam Acheson noted that this closed-loop system turns aerial observations into documented ground action, creating a continuous improvement cycle for risk mitigation. The integration is currently live, with plans to expand the model to verify clearances between buildings and high-voltage lines.
