Select Medical and Corewell Health to Build Rehabilitation Hospital

A new 84-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital will rise in Sterling Heights, Michigan, following a joint venture agreement between Select Medical and Corewell Health. Located adjacent to the Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital, the four-story facility aims to address the rising regional demand for specialized post-acute recovery services.

The hospital is designed to treat patients recovering from strokes, brain and spinal cord injuries, amputations, and complex orthopedic conditions. By shifting these services out of traditional hospital wards into a dedicated environment, the project will nearly quadruple the existing rehabilitation footprint in Troy. The facility will utilize advanced technology and purpose-built spaces to focus on restoring mobility and long-term patient independence.

Select Medical CEO Tom Mullin noted that the partnership, which dates back to 2017, will create a seamless continuum of care from acute admission to home discharge. Lamont Yoder, president of Corewell Health in Southeast Michigan, emphasized that the expansion serves as a commitment to making care more accessible and personalized for the community. The project is currently navigating municipal and regulatory reviews with an anticipated opening date in 2029.
