Shatterproof Appoints Susan Furtney as Chief Impact Officer
Susan Furtney, a veteran executive with three decades of experience in healthcare strategy and health equity, has been named Chief Impact Officer at Shatterproof. She will oversee the national nonprofit’s efforts to integrate addiction prevention, treatment, and policy advocacy into a unified, evidence-based strategy for measurable systems change.

Furtney joins the organization from Health Leads, where she served as Chief Strategy Officer. Her background includes a significant tenure at SUNY Upstate University Hospital, where she directed regional expansion and integrated behavioral health services for a population of 1.8 million. At Shatterproof, she will manage a wide-ranging portfolio that encompasses public education, research, and grassroots engagement, ensuring that the nonprofit's advocacy aligns with clinical outcomes.
Shatterproof CEO Pam Jenkins noted that the newly created role is designed to synchronize the organization’s disparate impact programs under a single strategic structure. Furtney, who holds a Master of Public Health from Emory University, intends to leverage her expertise in cross-sector partnerships to reduce barriers to care and address the systemic causes of addiction. Her appointment marks a shift toward a more centralized approach as the organization scales its national operations.
