Golden Triangle BID Wins International Award for Art Ave Project

The award recognizes the organization’s Art Ave initiative, a placemaking strategy designed to revitalize Washington’s office-centric core in the post-pandemic era. By installing public art, outdoor seating, and event spaces, the BID successfully turned a transit-heavy business district into a destination for tourists and local residents alike. The project was supported by the Streets for People grant program, administered by the DC Office of Planning.

Leona Agouridis, President of the Golden Triangle BID, noted that the vivid installations served as beacons, encouraging visitors to move through the city and linger longer in public spaces. David Downey, President and CEO of the International Downtown Association, praised the initiative as a model for other urban centers. The project was formally honored during the IDA’s 72nd Annual Conference & Marketplace in Toronto, highlighting the BID's ongoing efforts to transition the 172-block area into a mixed-use, vibrant neighborhood.
