Acer Challenges MacBook Neo With $699 Swift Air 14
Acer is positioning its new Swift Air 14 to disrupt the entry-level premium market, launching a 14-inch aluminum laptop at $699. By pairing Intel’s Core Series 3 chips with a 120Hz display, the manufacturer hopes to undercut Apple’s design-focused dominance while addressing common hardware limitations like port scarcity.
The Swift Air 14 arrives in a variety of colors, including green, pink, purple, and a muted blue, housed in an all-aluminum chassis. Under the hood, users can choose between six-core Core 5 or Core 7 "Wildcat Lake" processors. While the base configuration ships with 8GB of RAM—mirroring the controversial entry-level spec of the MacBook Neo—it offers flexibility for power users with an upgrade path to 16GB.
Physically, the device mimics the portability of its rival, weighing in at 2.76 pounds. At 12.9mm thick, it is marginally bulkier than the MacBook Neo, though Acer compensates with superior connectivity. Unlike Apple’s streamlined approach, the Swift includes two Thunderbolt 4 ports and a legacy USB-A 3.2 slot. The 1920 x 1200 screen trades raw resolution and peak brightness for a fluid 120Hz refresh rate, targeting users who prioritize visual motion over pixel density in the sRGB color space.
