Sacramento Children's Museum Secures $20,000 STEM Grant
A $20,000 grant from the American Water Charitable Foundation will bolster STEM programming at the Sacramento Children's Museum. The funding, facilitated through California American Water, aims to expand hands-on educational access for local youth, fostering critical thinking and scientific inquiry through the museum’s interactive exhibits and specialized learning activities.
Sharon Stone Smith, executive director of the museum, noted that the contribution provides meaningful opportunities for children to engage with science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The initiative aligns with the foundation’s broader Keep Communities Flowing program, which prioritizes investments in water, people, and community development.
Jason Alviar, Northern Division External Affairs Lead for California American Water, emphasized that these programs serve to spark curiosity and innovation among young learners. By supporting institutions like the Sacramento Children's Museum, the foundation seeks to cultivate the skills necessary for future generations of community leaders and engineers. The grant is funded entirely by American Water shareholders, ensuring no impact on utility customer rates.
