The Royal Mint Launches Star Trek 60th Anniversary 50p Coins

The first coin, hitting the market on September 3, displays the iconic Vulcan salute accompanied by the phrase "Live Long & Prosper." A second design follows in November, featuring a quartet of legendary spacecraft including the U.S.S. Voyager NCC-74656 and the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701. To honor the show's 1966 debut—which utilized vivid colors to showcase the then-new medium of color television—the Mint has incorporated swirling blue and purple nebulas onto select coins to mimic the deep reaches of space.

Tim Mulhall, Head of Fandom at The Royal Mint, described the project as a tribute to a franchise that has inspired generations. The collaboration with Paramount EMEA serves a dedicated collector base that has grown alongside the series, which now encompasses 12 television shows and 14 feature films. With over 950 episodes produced and more than $2 billion earned at the global box office, the cultural footprint of the series remains vast.
