Zum Kicks Off 2026 School Year by Highlighting Driver Operations
As the 2026–27 academic year begins, student mobility firm Zum is shifting its focus toward the drivers operating its network across 19 states. The company, which now partners with over 6,500 schools, is highlighting the role of its staff in maintaining reliable, technology-driven transport for students and their families.
The company has expanded its footprint this year, securing contracts with the Fresno Unified School District, the School District of Philadelphia, the Shawnee Mission School District, and Rockford Public Schools. According to Ritu Narayan, founder and CEO of Zum, the company’s internal culture prioritizes the driver experience to ensure safety and service consistency. Drivers currently utilize the company’s AI-powered Connected Mobility Experience platform, which provides real-time digital tools and tablet-based navigation to streamline routes.
For many of the company’s employees, the appeal lies in the integration of modern hardware—such as air-conditioned and electric buses—with a community-oriented approach to student transit. Drivers from across the country, including Chester Herbert in Rockford and Grace Maher in Fresno, cite the importance of building rapport with students and the support provided by the company’s training programs. Liz Sanchez, Executive Vice President of Student Mobility, noted that the weeks preceding the first day of school were dedicated to intensive preparation and training to meet the logistical demands of the new school year.
