Microsoft Overhauls Financial Reporting to Showcase Azure Growth
Microsoft is abandoning its long-standing three-segment financial structure, consolidating operations into two units to better reflect an AI-centric business model. The shift marks a significant departure in transparency, as the tech giant commits to disclosing quarterly revenue for its Azure cloud business, a figure previously obscured by bundled reporting.

The company’s previous reporting segments—Productivity and Business Processes, Intelligent Cloud, and More Personal Computing—are being replaced by two new categories: Agents and Infra, and Devices and Consumer. The latter will house search, advertising, LinkedIn, Xbox, and Windows OEM revenues. Meanwhile, Agents and Infra will encompass the core of Microsoft’s software and cloud business, including Microsoft 365 and server products.
CEO Satya Nadella described the move as a response to the blurring boundaries between product lines driven by artificial intelligence. By isolating Azure, Microsoft aims to present it as a pure-play consumption-based infrastructure platform. This change excludes secondary services like GitHub and specialized cloud offerings from the Azure revenue line, providing investors with a clearer view of the platform’s direct performance as it competes for dominance in the enterprise cloud market.
