Often likened to GitHub for its massive library of machine learning models and datasets, Hugging Face has served as the central nexus for open-source AI collaboration since its 2016 founding. CEO Jensen Huang stated that the platform will maintain its open ecosystem, allowing developers to utilize various frameworks, clouds, and computing providers without the mandatory use of Nvidia hardware.
The acquisition follows months of speculation and a rapid escalation in valuation. Hugging Face was last valued at $4.5 billion following a 2023 funding round that included Nvidia as an investor.
