Major AI Platforms Suffer Simultaneous Outages
A sudden, synchronized collapse of generative AI services struck ChatGPT, Grok, and Claude this morning, leaving millions of users unable to access their respective platforms. The disruptions began around 10:30 AM ET, triggering widespread error messages across web and mobile interfaces for the industry’s three most prominent chatbot providers.
OpenAI confirmed elevated error rates for ChatGPT and its Codex model shortly after 11:00 AM ET, noting that engineers have applied a mitigation strategy and are currently monitoring system recovery. Simultaneously, Anthropic reported instability across several iterations of its Claude model, specifically identifying issues with Opus 4.8 and Opus 5. While service has partially stabilized for some, the company continues to work on a definitive fix.
Meanwhile, xAI’s Grok remains largely inaccessible across both app and web platforms. The company issued a brief statement confirming they are working to restore service as quickly as possible, though they provided no technical explanation for the downtime. As of now, the cause of this concurrent failure remains unknown, and none of the three companies have confirmed whether these outages share a common underlying infrastructure or network trigger.
