The week-long expedition, scheduled for October 5-12, sees Horton joined by nine family members and friends. Beyond the physical challenge, the trip aims to highlight the global disparity in resources for those diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a progressive neurodegenerative condition often called Lou Gehrig’s disease. By uniting the ALS Network in the United States with the Hellenic ALS Association, the initiative seeks to foster international solidarity for patients and caregivers.

Sheri Strahl, president and CEO of the ALS Network, described the expedition as a tribute rooted in heritage and remembrance. The collaboration will drive fundraising efforts tailored to each country: donations channeled through the ALS Network will support its core mission, while the Hellenic ALS Association will utilize proceeds to expand services for patients throughout Greece. Both organizations plan to document the journey through real-time updates, aiming to transform a private family tribute into a broader advocacy campaign that emphasizes that disease awareness and compassion transcend national borders.
