US Money Market Fund Assets Hit New Record Peak of $7.98 Trillion
Investors poured another $44.75 billion into money market funds for the week ending September 2, pushing total assets to a record-breaking $7.98 trillion. The latest data from the Investment Company Institute highlights a continued preference for government-backed stability amid shifting market conditions.

Government funds led the surge, capturing $38.80 billion in new capital as investors sought the security of Treasury-linked holdings. Prime funds also saw gains, adding $4.92 billion, while tax-exempt vehicles grew by $1.03 billion. The appetite for these instruments remains robust across both retail and institutional channels.
Institutional investors accounted for the bulk of the week's activity, contributing $33.66 billion to the total increase. Their allocations were heavily skewed toward government funds, which grew to $4.60 trillion. Retail investors followed a similar trend, adding $11.10 billion to bring their total holdings to $3.11 trillion. These flows serve as a primary indicator of current cash positioning, reflecting a steady climb in liquidity held within these highly liquid vehicles.
