Cboe Reports August 2026 Trading Volumes and Record XSP Activity
Cboe Global Markets posted a mixed performance across its global business lines in August 2026, navigating varied shifts in volume while hitting a specific milestone in its index options segment. The Chicago-based exchange operator saw its mini-SPX options reach a new monthly average daily volume record of 241,000 contracts.

While index options and multi-listed options grew by 17.4% and 3.3% respectively compared to August 2025, other sectors faced headwinds. On-exchange U.S. equities volume dipped 10%, totaling 1.48 billion matched shares. Conversely, the firm’s international footprint showed resilience, with Canadian equities climbing 13.3% and European equities rising 5.2% over the same annual period. Global foreign exchange markets also expanded, recording a 14.1% increase in average daily volume to $55.7 billion.
The month marked a transition period for the firm’s operational scope, specifically following the July 31 divestiture of Cboe Australia to TMX Group Limited. With Australian metrics now fully excised from the data, the August report reflects a streamlined focus on the company's core derivatives and clearing operations. Cboe Clear Europe saw significant activity, with cleared trades rising 19.7% and net settlements up 20.4% year-over-year.
