Nvidia Expands DLSS 5 Support to RTX 40-Series GPUs
Nvidia is widening the reach of its upcoming DLSS 5 AI rendering technology, confirming plans to bring the feature to RTX 40-series hardware following an initial rollout on the new RTX 50-series. The move follows widespread community interest after unofficial mods allowed the software to run on older card generations.

Nvidia spokesperson Rajal Maharaj clarified that the company’s immediate priority remains performance tuning for the RTX 50-series, with model updates slated for later this fall. Once these optimizations stabilize, the focus will shift toward integrating official support for the previous generation of cards. Regarding the RTX 30 and 20-series GPUs, which saw unstable community-led porting attempts, the company maintains a cautious stance, prioritizing one hardware generation at a time.
Despite the expansion, Nvidia intends to keep the user experience streamlined. The company confirmed that gamers will only have access to a simple on-or-off toggle for DLSS 5, withholding the granular sliders currently utilized by modders. These complex adjustments—including model selection, structure intensity, and custom per-pixel masking—are reserved for developers. However, Nvidia noted that studios retain the discretion to expose certain settings within their own game menus, potentially offering players more flexibility depending on specific title implementations.
