TrustKernel Launches PlugClaw for Private AI Computing
A 15-gram USB-C stick is now shipping globally, promising to turn any smartphone or laptop into a secure AI workstation. By isolating agent operations within its own hardware environment, PlugClaw aims to solve the persistent privacy risks associated with autonomous AI agents that typically demand broad system permissions.
The device measures just 50 by 19 millimeters and runs on a MediaTek Helio G80 processor, supported by 6 GB of memory and 128 GB of encrypted storage. It operates on PlugOS, a privacy-hardened version of Android paired with Ubuntu, which functions independently of the host machine. Because the agent resides entirely within the stick, it cannot access the host device's personal files, photos, or accounts, effectively sandboxing AI activity from the user's main operating system.
Compatibility spans across major platforms, including iOS, Android, Windows, and macOS, allowing users to carry their entire AI workspace between devices. For more intensive tasks, TrustKernel has launched a free confidential inference service powered by cloud-based hardware Trusted Execution Environments, ensuring data remains encrypted even from the provider. PlugClaw retails for $149, with no ongoing subscription required for the hardware itself.
