A 100-Meter Table Unites the Formula 1 Paddock at Monza

A nearly 100-meter-long dinner table stretched across the Monza starting grid on Thursday, transforming the high-stakes Formula 1 circuit into a communal dining room. The event, hosted by Barilla, gathered over 200 members of the racing ecosystem—from mechanics to drivers—to celebrate the human collaboration behind every competitive lap.

The evening, dubbed La Tavolata, moved the focus away from telemetry and split-second pit stops to the relationships that sustain the sport. Curated by three-Michelin-starred chef Massimo Bottura, the menu featured Barilla pasta served to an audience rarely seen together in a relaxed setting: team principals, tire technicians, safety car drivers, and engineers. The gathering aimed to highlight that, much like a professional kitchen, a racing team’s success relies on a network of trust that extends far beyond the cockpit.

"Great performances are never a solo effort," said Bottura, drawing parallels between his culinary team and the mechanics who keep F1 cars on the track. For participants like VCARB driver Yuki Tsunoda, the night offered a rare pause in the intensity of the Italian Grand Prix weekend. Former World Champion Nico Rosberg echoed this sentiment, noting that the most vital professional bonds are often forged away from the cameras, in the quiet moments of mutual reliance that define a team sport. Paolo Barilla, Vice Chairman of the Barilla Group and a former F1 driver himself, observed that while the technology behind the cars has transformed over decades, the core necessity of human connection remains the sport’s most enduring constant.
