Abington Township Residents and Businesses Offered $5M Fire Settlement
A $5 million settlement has been reached in the class action lawsuit following the February 2025 fire at the SPS Technologies facility in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania. The agreement addresses claims from residents, employees, and business operators within a one-mile radius of the Highland Avenue site who faced evacuation orders during the incident.
The settlement, involving SPS Technologies and its parent company Precision Castparts Corp., follows allegations of damages stemming from the blaze that occurred between February 17 and February 22, 2025. While the companies maintain a denial of any wrongdoing, the fund is designed to compensate eligible parties for documented losses. Specifically, business operators may claim up to $5,000 for unreimbursed losses, while hourly employees can seek up to $200 for lost wages and property owners up to $300 for damage.
To secure a payment, affected individuals must submit a claim by December 3, 2026. The settlement also permits those who wish to pursue independent litigation to opt out by November 3, 2026. A final approval hearing is scheduled for May 25, 2027, where the Court will review the distribution of funds, including legal fees and service awards for class representatives.
