Microsoft Expands Cloud Gaming to TCL Televisions

TCL smart TVs will soon feature the native Xbox app, enabling users to stream titles directly without a console. This integration arrives alongside Microsoft’s strategic shift toward pay-as-you-go cloud gaming, broadening accessibility even as the company imposes new monthly time caps on its existing Game Pass subscription tiers.

The rollout for TCL devices is scheduled for the coming months, aligning with a broader push to decouple cloud gaming from mandatory Game Pass subscriptions. By November, users will gain the ability to access specific titles via the cloud on a pay-as-you-go basis. This expansion follows similar partnerships with Hisense, Samsung, LG, and various Amazon Fire TV devices, marking a continued effort to embed the Xbox ecosystem into living room hardware.

However, this increased accessibility comes with stricter usage boundaries. Microsoft recently implemented monthly hour limits for cloud gaming, restricting Game Pass Ultimate subscribers to 15 hours, Premium members to 10 hours, and Essential users to just 5 hours per month. Those exceeding these limits must purchase additional playtime bundles, signaling a transition toward a more transactional model for cloud-based play.
