Stark County Jail Launches PATH Program to Reduce Recidivism
Thirty days of intensive counseling, behavioral health support, and reentry planning serve as the foundation for the new Prevention, Accountability, Treatment & Healing (PATH) program. Launched in July at the Stark County Jail in Canton, Ohio, the initiative recently marked its first group of graduates from the court-mandated curriculum.
The program targets the root causes of repeated justice-system involvement by combining clinical oversight with practical life skills. Participants receive individualized treatment plans, which may include Medication-Assisted Treatment for substance use disorders. Beyond the jail walls, the initiative facilitates referrals to community resources to ensure continuity of care once individuals are released.
Kelley Beckett of Armor Health stated that the program aims to shift the focus of incarceration toward preparation for life after release. Stark County Sheriff Eric Weisburn echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that providing structure and medical support to those in custody contributes to long-term community safety. By prioritizing stability and personal responsibility, the partnership between Armor Health and the Sheriff's Office seeks to lower recidivism rates through a holistic approach to rehabilitation.
