Aroa Biosurgery reports low infection rates in complex reconstruction study
With 411 patients analyzed across 10 U.S. centers, a new study in Advances in Therapy reveals that Aroa Biosurgery’s Myriad bioscaffolds maintain a deep tissue infection rate of just 0.7%, even when used on patients with significant systemic health challenges and high-risk, contaminated soft tissue defects.

The interim analysis from the ongoing MASTRR Registry is the largest prospective study of its kind in in-patient soft tissue reconstruction. Researchers evaluated the Myriad Matrix and Myriad Morcells products within a cohort where 59% of patients were classified as ASA Class III or IV. The population included individuals with diabetes, vascular disease, and nicotine use, further complicated by the fact that 89% of treated defects were categorized as clean-contaminated or contaminated.
Despite the clinical difficulty, no adverse events were linked to the Myriad products over a median follow-up of 27 weeks. The study authors highlighted that these results compare favorably against resorbable synthetic bioscaffolds, which have historically reported infection rates between 16% and 25% in similar meta-analyses. CEO Brian Ward noted that the data underscores the product's performance in challenging real-world scenarios, potentially offering a way to mitigate the significant hospital costs and recovery delays associated with post-operative surgical site infections.
The MASTRR Registry remains an active, multicenter observational project with over 550 patients currently enrolled, aiming for a total of 800 participants across 15 sites. As the dataset expands, Aroa Biosurgery intends to use these findings to support the clinical adoption of its ovine forestomach matrix technology, which has already seen a 54% sales increase in the 2026 fiscal year.
