Huawei Mate XT 2 Adopts Samsung Design and Privacy Screen Tech
Huawei’s new Mate XT 2 trifold smartphone marks a sharp shift in design philosophy, moving away from its predecessor’s exposed accordion fold toward an inward-folding mechanism. This update mirrors the structure of Samsung’s Galaxy Z TriFold while introducing a specialized privacy display technology previously exclusive to the Galaxy S26 Ultra.
The Mate XT 2 features a 10.2-inch flexible screen that folds on both sides to protect the internal panel from damage. Beyond its structural overhaul, the device offers a privacy OLED mode that restricts light emission to narrow viewing angles, rendering the screen appear black to onlookers. This feature is restricted to the highest configuration, requiring users to purchase the 16GB RAM and 1TB storage model plus an additional ¥1,000 upgrade fee.
Under the hood, the device is powered by the Kirin 9050 Pro chipset and boasts an IP59 water-resistance rating. It launched in the Chinese market today with a starting price of ¥19,999, approximately $3,000. While Samsung discontinued its own Z TriFold shortly after launch last year, industry leaks indicate the company continues to develop future iterations of the form factor.
