XPENG Launches First Automated Humanoid Robot Production Line

Guangzhou-based XPENG has officially moved from R&D prototyping to mass manufacturing, commissioning the world’s first automated production line for advanced humanoid robots. The facility, which integrates automotive-grade quality standards, saw its first general-purpose humanoid, IRON, autonomously walk off the line, signaling a shift toward commercial-scale robot deployment.

The new facility achieves over 80% automation in its core processes, applying the precision and flexible manufacturing techniques typically reserved for smart electric vehicles. By adapting these automotive systems to robotics, XPENG aims to establish a consistent, scalable quality framework for a sector that has historically struggled with rapid capacity expansion.

IRON, the robot platform driving this shift, features a proprietary flexible lattice structure and 76 degrees of freedom, including 21 per hand. It is powered by three Turing AI chips, providing 2,250 TOPS of computing power to run the company's Physical AI foundation model locally. This architecture allows the robot to handle complex, autonomous tasks with low-latency inference and enhanced data security.

Chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng views the development as the company's second major growth curve, recently bolstered by a $900 million funding round that valued the robotics division at over $6.3 billion. While initial deployments will be limited to XPENG’s own campuses and retail stores by the end of this year, the company plans a full commercial market launch in China and overseas by 2027.
