Kevin Costner Joins Caris Life Sciences to Promote Early Cancer Screening
Actor Kevin Costner is the face of a new national campaign for Caris Life Sciences, urging a more proactive approach to oncology. The campaign, titled "Math," promotes Caris Detect, a multi-cancer early detection blood test that uses artificial intelligence to identify molecular signals before symptoms emerge.
The Irving-based TechBio company is betting that Costner’s public appeal will help bridge the gap between complex molecular science and patient adoption. Caris Detect distinguishes itself from traditional screening methods by utilizing ultra-deep Whole Genome Sequencing and Whole Transcriptome Sequencing. By analyzing a broad spectrum of biological data, the company aims to offer a more comprehensive view of cancer-associated patterns than tests limited to a narrow set of biomarkers.
David Dean Halbert, founder and CEO of Caris, emphasized that the initiative is rooted in the belief that earlier intervention dramatically expands treatment options and improves survival rates. For Costner, the collaboration is personal, citing the widespread impact of cancer on families as his primary motivation for participating. The test is designed to complement, rather than replace, routine cancer screenings and is currently available to patients nationwide.
