Waterdrop Posts 18th Consecutive Profitable Quarter Amid AI Expansion
Beijing-based Waterdrop Inc. reported a 72.8% year-over-year revenue surge to RMB1,448.2 million for the second quarter of 2026, marking four and a half years of continuous profitability. The insurance technology firm attributes this growth to aggressive AI integration across its underwriting, medical crowdfunding, and clinical trial platforms.

The company’s insurance division remains its primary engine, posting an 80.5% revenue increase compared to the previous year. Operating profit for the segment reached RMB183.6 million, a 20% jump quarter-over-quarter. By deploying its 'AI Medical Insurance Expert,' the firm saw a 25.6% rise in facilitated premiums, while first-year premiums for long-term policies grew by 33.4%. Waterdrop is aggressively targeting the chronic-disease market, recently launching 'Rongyibao,' a long-term critical illness product that removes traditional health disclosure requirements.
Beyond insurance, the company’s medical crowdfunding platform continues to scale, having facilitated RMB74.7 billion in donations from 499 million users since 2016. The platform now utilizes large language models to automate risk management, identifying high-risk fundraising scenarios through semantic parsing. This AI-driven approach extends to the E-Find clinical trial business, which generated RMB35.2 million in quarterly revenue. The platform now maintains active partnerships with 255 pharmaceutical companies and contract research organizations, having supported over 1,800 clinical projects to date. Founder and CEO Shen Peng stated that technology remains the core driver for the company’s ongoing value creation.
