Luca Mining Hits High-Grade Gold at Tahuehueto’s Catorce Zone
Exploration drilling at the Tahuehueto gold-silver mine in Durango, Mexico, has returned significant mineralization from the Catorce Zone, marking the site’s first successful activity in this sector since 2008. The initial surface drillhole yielded 9.9 metres of 5.39 g/t gold equivalent, including a high-grade section of 27.56 g/t.
The results from the Catorce Zone—an area interpreted as a southern extension of the Creston Vein system—bolster Luca Mining’s strategy to expand resources near existing underground infrastructure. The company utilized seven holes to test the zone, which sits approximately 250 metres from current development.
Beyond the Catorce discovery, the 2026 exploration program continues to validate the Creston Vein’s continuity. Drilling beneath Level 20 confirmed high-grade intercepts across 14 holes, with hole DDH26-248 returning 6.2 metres of 6.37 g/t gold equivalent. Paul D. Gray, the company’s VP of Exploration, noted that these findings reinforce the potential for significant expansion beyond current resource boundaries. With three surface rigs currently deployed or en route to the site, Luca is focused on defining mineralization that can be integrated into its near-term mine plan.
