NEXA Lending Restructures Leadership as Geri Farr Takes CEO Helm

Mike Kortas, the founder of Phoenix-based NEXA Lending, is stepping down as CEO to transition into the newly defined role of Executive Partner, handing day-to-day operations to Geri Farr. The move aims to separate the company's administrative execution from its long-term strategic innovation and business expansion.

Farr, who joined the organization in 2025, brings extensive experience in wholesale and distributed retail to her new position. Her mandate focuses on strengthening the infrastructure and discipline required to scale the company, allowing the leadership team to support the next wave of growth. The transition is part of a broader effort to avoid the common trap where founders anchor a company’s operational capacity to their own personal bandwidth.

Kortas, who managed Farr nearly two decades ago at NOVA Home Loans, describes the change as a strategic necessity rather than a retreat. By shifting into the Executive Partner role, Kortas intends to focus exclusively on acquisitions, high-level partnerships, and developing new economic models for loan officers. This structure is intended to serve as a blueprint for other mortgage company owners, offering them a path to contribute to the organization’s future without being tethered to the daily burdens of payroll, compliance, and licensing. The company’s executive bench, including Chief Administrative Officer Rana Mortensen and Chief Operating Officer Jason duPont, remains in place to support this shift in organizational architecture.
