Google overhauls Gemini with 3.5 Flash and expressive design
Google unveiled a sweeping series of updates to its Gemini ecosystem at the annual I/O event, anchored by the launch of the Gemini 3.5 Flash model. The refresh signals a shift toward more interactive, agentic AI capabilities, coupled with a complete visual overhaul intended to make information delivery more dynamic and responsive.
The newly introduced Gemini 3.5 Flash model arrives with significant performance gains, prioritizing speed and efficiency over its predecessors. Google claims this iteration outperforms the 3.1 Pro version on both coding tasks and the development of autonomous AI agents. While Flash currently leads the rollout, the company intends to expand the 3.5 family with a Pro variant scheduled for release next month.
Beyond technical upgrades, the application adopts a "Neural Expressive" design language. Users will encounter smoother interface animations, refined typography, and haptic feedback integrated into button interactions. Responses within the app have been restructured to prioritize critical data, supplemented by interactive timelines and narrated video content. Additionally, the transition between text input and the voice-enabled Gemini Live mode is now more fluid, with the latter set to support a wider array of regional dialects.
