Fujitsu Targets Sovereign AI Market with Domestic 2nm MONAKA Processor

Fujitsu is pivoting toward sovereign AI infrastructure with the November 2026 launch of its FUJITSU-MONAKA CPU. Designed and manufactured entirely in Japan, the 2nm 3D-stacked processor aims to secure local supply chains while delivering double the AI inference throughput of current market alternatives for data center operators.

The FUJITSU-MONAKA chip operates at a maximum frequency of 3.8GHz and features memory transfer speeds of 8800MT/s. By doubling inference throughput, the hardware allows operators to cut their server footprint and power requirements by 50% for identical computational loads. The technology draws on research subsidized by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization, marking a significant domestic milestone in high-performance computing.

Beyond the silicon, Fujitsu plans to roll out a dedicated MONAKA server line specifically for academic, HPC, and enterprise clients across Japan and Europe. The hardware leverages proprietary cooling technology to function in standard air-cooled environments, addressing the physical space and energy constraints currently hindering AI expansion. By managing the manufacturing process locally, the company emphasizes transparency and traceability in an era where infrastructure autonomy is increasingly viewed as a pillar of national security.
