California Waste Solutions Expands Green Infrastructure in Vietnam
Vietnam Waste Solutions is launching a major capital investment to convert its Da Phuoc landfill into a high-capacity clean-energy complex. The project, centered on a new 50- to 60-megawatt waste-to-energy plant, aims to align the facility with Vietnam’s national goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

The expansion at the Da Phuoc Integrated Solid Waste Facility outside Ho Chi Minh City represents a significant shift for the site, which currently processes 6,500 tons of municipal waste daily. While the facility has long utilized landfill gas to generate electricity for its own operations, the addition of the new waste-to-energy plant will allow for large-scale power production from residual material that cannot be recycled or composted. This initiative builds upon $200 million already invested in the site to maintain U.S. Subtitle D environmental standards.
Beyond energy production, the company plans to install specialized recycling lines to enhance its existing material-recovery systems. The strategy relies on a blend of international technology—including equipment from German, Dutch, and Austrian firms—and local expertise. Since the facility’s inception, California Waste Solutions has focused on training a predominantly Vietnamese workforce, a model that will continue as the company transitions toward this more intensive resource-recovery phase. Company leadership views these upgrades as a critical step in reducing the volume of waste requiring long-term burial while supporting Ho Chi Minh City’s rapid urban growth.
