Industrial Giants Align to Launch European Hydrogen Truck Network

Volvo Group, Daimler Truck, Toyota, and Bosch are spearheading the manufacturing push, while energy providers including Air Liquide and TotalEnergies focus on the supply chain. Daimler Truck, having already logged 600,000 kilometers with fuel cell prototypes, plans to roll out a new series of fuel cell trucks by late 2026, alongside upcoming hydrogen combustion engine models. Toyota and Bosch provide the essential technical backbone, leveraging decades of fuel cell expertise and high-capacity refueling hardware.

To achieve price parity with diesel, the coalition advocates for three specific policy levers: government incentives for vehicle production, harmonized greenhouse gas quota mechanisms, and exemptions from road tolls for zero-emission fleets. Germany’s current funding program has already seen oversubscription for 70 high-capacity stations and 800 trucks, signaling strong commercial demand. Industry leaders now urge the European Commission to synchronize these frameworks across the continent to ensure energy resilience and market competitiveness.
