Mindstream Energy Targets Jordan for Multi-Gigawatt AI Infrastructure
With global data center investment projected to hit $31.6 trillion by 2050, Mindstream Energy is bypassing grid constraints by building its Al-Risha Sovereign AI campus directly atop a Jordanian gas field. The project aims to solve the industry's primary bottleneck: securing reliable, low-cost power for massive high-performance computing loads.

The 245-acre site in Jordan is designed to scale toward 400 megawatts, with an initial 70 MW deployment slated for the second quarter of 2027. By integrating containerized natural gas generation with modular AI hardware, the company seeks to align with a shifting landscape where power availability, rather than just capital or GPU access, dictates site viability. PwC’s Global Data Centre Outlook 2026–2050 identifies this energy-first approach as a critical factor for the Middle East, a region expected to attract $1.1 trillion in related investment over the next quarter-century.
Mark F. Thimmig, Chairman and CEO of Mindstream Energy, argues that the industry has reached a tipping point where traditional data center development models are failing to meet the energy intensity of modern AI workloads. The Al-Risha campus is structured to address this by combining long-term supply agreements with Jordan’s NPC, on-site power generation, and sovereign hosting capabilities. As data residency requirements tighten globally, the campus offers a dedicated environment for governments and enterprises to process critical workloads under independent power and secure telecommunications. Currently, 22 companies are engaged in the development ecosystem, focusing on a strategy that prioritizes economic operation and geopolitical resilience.
