Boys & Girls Clubs of Frederick County Secures $20,000 Hunger Relief Grant

This funding supports the organization’s ongoing commitment to healthy lifestyles, a core priority for the more than 280 youth who utilize the club’s facilities annually. Beyond providing daily snacks and meals, the grant will bolster nutrition education initiatives designed to foster long-term healthy habits among participants. Timika Thrasher, chief executive officer of the local branch, emphasized that the programs aim to address immediate food needs while equipping children with the knowledge required for sustained personal wellness.

Operating in Frederick since 2009, the club offers a range of development programs, including academic support and mentorship, to ensure local youth have access to a safe environment outside of school hours. The grant from the foundation, which has distributed over $25 million in aid since 2001, aligns with the club's inclusive mission. With more than half of its annual attendees relying on full or partial scholarships, the organization continues to provide essential services regardless of a family's ability to pay.
