Trackonomy Acquires Identiv IoT to Form Physical AI Conglomerate
San Jose-based Trackonomy Systems has finalized its acquisition of Identiv’s IoT label business, creating a vertically integrated group that manages the entire supply chain from silicon to cloud. The newly formed Trackonomy Group will oversee three independent entities specializing in semiconductors, smart labels, and end-to-end tracking solutions.
The reorganization brings together InPlay, Identiv, and Sentient under a single corporate umbrella. Despite the unified ownership, the group intends to maintain operational independence for each business unit. InPlay will continue its focus on ultra-low-power Bluetooth semiconductors, while Identiv retains its role as a manufacturer of NFC and RFID labels. Sentient will remain dedicated to its existing portfolio of smart tracking infrastructure, including robotics and cloud-native platforms.
Dr. Erik Volkerink, co-founder and CEO of Trackonomy, emphasized that the strategy avoids merging the firms into a single entity, allowing each to compete openly within their respective markets. The combined infrastructure currently manages nearly 20 million daily shipments, with projections aiming for 200 million connected assets. This move leverages Trackonomy’s existing patent portfolio and global manufacturing capacity, which includes facilities across Asia, Europe, and the United States. Manfred Mueller will lead the Identiv business unit as it integrates into the broader group structure. The transition prioritizes project continuity for existing partners in sectors ranging from defense and logistics to healthcare and retail.
