Leland Little Signature Auctions Realize $1.2 Million in North Carolina
Collectors gathered in Hillsborough for a week of high-end trade, ultimately driving $1.2 million in sales across Leland Little’s fine art, jewelry, and decorative art departments. The series, which began September 8, signaled a robust appetite for rare goods, bolstered by a 15% surge in new bidder registrations.
The auction house’s Fine Art segment saw significant movement, led by Arturo Nathan’s La nave naufragata, which fetched $30,000. Virginia Berresford’s Glacier followed at $24,000, while North Carolina artist John Beerman’s Door County, Morning brought in $20,400. These results highlight a sustained market interest in diverse aesthetic works.
Jewelry and decorative pieces drew similar intensity. A standout antique platinum ring featuring a 3.69-carat old mine cut diamond realized $19,200, complemented by a Schlumberger for Tiffany & Co. Ibex motif brooch that sold for $13,200. In the decorative category, a Tiffany Studios Nautilus lamp commanded the top price at $33,600, closely followed by Dave McGary’s bronze sculpture, Point of No Return, which settled at $28,800.
Leland Little, president of the auction firm, attributed the week's success to a growing appetite for physical participation and community engagement. Beyond the bidding floor, the firm’s lecture series on the life of Bunny Mellon and various preview events served as catalysts for the week’s momentum, confirming that the appetite for high-end collectibles remains resilient.
