Plug and Play Foundation and Wells Fargo Launch SMB Tech Accelerator

Small-business owners often face the dual burden of managing core functions—from finance to customer service—while struggling to evaluate which software tools actually improve their bottom line. The SMB Tech Connect program intends to alleviate this by providing more than just capital. Through the Foundation’s ELEVATE Pathway, participants gain access to tailored mentorship and hands-on implementation support designed to turn abstract technology promises into concrete operational gains.

Participants undergo an initial readiness assessment to identify bottlenecks, which dictates their path through the program. The Technology Pilot Track pairs businesses with vetted startups to solve specific pain points, while the Workshop Implementation Track focuses on training owners to deploy accessible automation tools. Dominique Reese, Executive Director of the Plug and Play Foundation, noted that access alone is insufficient, stressing that businesses require trusted guidance and the financial flexibility to test solutions that address their unique needs. If the California pilot succeeds, the Foundation plans to expand the model to cities including New York, Chicago, and Dallas.
