Veritiv Launches Compact Cold Chain Packaging to Support GLP-1 Growth
As adult use of GLP-1 therapies surges from 3% to 11% in just two years, specialty pharmacies are struggling to manage the logistics of refrigerated home delivery. Atlanta-based Veritiv is responding to this pressure with the TempSafe RxShield, a compact packaging solution designed to lower shipping costs and optimize warehouse space.

The rise of GLP-1 medications has fundamentally altered specialty pharmacy operations, with industry analysts predicting a global market valuation of nearly $190 billion by 2035. With over 60% of these prescriptions now fulfilled via mail, the demand for reliable, cost-effective cold chain logistics has become a critical bottleneck. Veritiv’s new offering targets these specific operational constraints by replacing bulkier, traditional shipping materials with a lightweight, 240-gram canister.
The TempSafe RxShield maintains refrigerated temperatures for up to 30 hours and meets ISTA 7E thermal performance standards. Its slim design allows pharmacies to house up to four 10 mL vials in a single unit, significantly reducing dimensional weight—a primary driver of parcel shipping costs. Beyond the efficiency gains in fulfillment, the product features a reusable canister aimed at enhancing the patient unboxing experience. According to Chris Bradley, Veritiv’s Chief Marketing Officer, the system is engineered to help distributors scale operations without the added complexity of larger, less efficient cold chain alternatives.
