National Press Club to Screen FRONTLINE Documentary on PFAS Crisis
On September 30, the National Press Club in Washington will host a screening of "Contaminated: The Carpet Industry's Toxic Legacy," a collaborative documentary investigating how PFAS chemicals migrated from stain-resistant manufacturing into the water supplies and ecosystems of Georgia, Alabama, and South Carolina.
The event kicks off at 6:00 p.m. with opening remarks followed by the film, which features a joint investigation by FRONTLINE, The Associated Press, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Post and Courier, and AL.com. The project relies on thousands of pages of court records, depositions, and interviews with industry insiders, regulators, and residents suffering from illnesses linked to chemical exposure.
At 7:00 p.m., a panel discussion will explore the mechanics of this cross-newsroom collaboration and its real-world impact on affected communities. Participants include journalist Dylan Jackson, FRONTLINE director Jonathan Schienberg, and journalist Maggie Kates. Tickets for the event at the National Press Building are priced at $5 for club members and $15 for the general public.
