WesternU and Sonoma State Launch Medical Education Pathway
Sonoma State University students now have a streamlined route into medical and physical therapy programs at Western University of Health Sciences’ Oregon campus. The new partnership aims to simplify the transition from undergraduate studies to professional health degrees by providing structured mentorship and guaranteed interview opportunities for high-performing applicants.
The collaboration targets students pursuing careers in osteopathic medicine or physical therapy, two fields currently facing significant workforce shortages. By formalizing this pathway, WesternU HCOM and the College of Health Sciences-Northwest intend to demystify the complex admissions process, which often acts as a barrier for aspiring healthcare professionals. Participants will benefit from direct guidance and a clear roadmap for meeting prerequisite requirements.
Beyond mentorship, the agreement offers tangible incentives for applicants. Students applying to the Doctor of Physical Therapy program at CHS-Northwest will receive an application fee waiver. According to Dr. Jonathan Perry, the program has already sparked immediate interest among students, with many attending recruitment sessions to secure their future placements. For Sonoma State, the partnership serves as a practical solution to career readiness, helping undergraduates navigate the transition into advanced training with greater confidence.
