Tokyo and Northern Kanto Join Forces to Boost Inbound Tourism
To entice international travelers beyond the capital, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government launched a dedicated website on September 14, 2026. The platform bridges Tokyo with the prefectures of Ibaraki, Tochigi, and Gunma, offering curated travel routes to natural landscapes, historic sites, and hot springs located within a two-hour train ride.
Operated by the Tokyo Convention & Visitors Bureau, the site serves as a logistical hub for visitors navigating the transition from Japan’s iconic gateway to the northern Kanto region. Beyond showcasing diverse regional attractions, the portal provides essential transit guides and rail information to simplify multi-prefecture itineraries. This initiative is a component of the broader ALL JAPAN & TOKYO Project, which aims to stimulate industrial growth through regional partnerships.
By December 2026, the resource will expand to include detailed sightseeing maps and a deeper selection of local attractions. The project highlights the accessibility of northern Kanto, positioning the area as a natural extension for tourists already based in Tokyo.
