Medartis Acquires Florida’s M.A.R.C. Institute for Surgical Training

With 36 surgical stations and capacity for 140 participants, the M.A.R.C. Institute in Doral, Florida, has been acquired by the Swiss Medartis Group. The deal marks the Basel-based manufacturer’s first permanent surgical education center outside Europe, strengthening its footprint in the critical North and South American markets.

The acquisition integrates the Doral facility, located near Miami International Airport, into the Medartis network while maintaining its independence. Under the continued guidance of general manager Heloise Peixoto, the institute will remain accessible to third-party medical societies, universities, and competing device manufacturers. This open-access model ensures that the center remains a hub for broader orthopedic research and student education.

Medartis plans to modernize the facility, which specializes in hands-on anatomical specimen training and fracture simulation. For CEO Matthias Schupp, the purchase is a strategic move to boost adoption of Medartis systems by providing surgeons with direct, high-fidelity experience. The group also gains access to the institute's satellite operations in Brazil, covering São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Curitiba. By securing this infrastructure, the company aims to solidify its presence in the Americas, where it already operates under the Medartis and NeoOrtho brands.
