Swedish Candy Icon Ahlgrens Bilar Arrives at Target Stores Nationwide
After seven decades of dominating Swedish confectionary shelves, the foam candy known as the country’s most-bought car is making its U.S. debut. Cloetta Group confirmed the nationwide rollout, exclusively positioning its signature fruit-flavored, vehicle-shaped treats within Target aisles to capture the American market’s appetite for imported sweets.

The U.S. launch features four distinct varieties: Original, Sour, Fruity Duo, and Sour & Fruity. While the specific flavor profile of the Original and Sour cars remains a closely guarded corporate secret, the brand has maintained its signature soft, chewy texture since its accidental creation in 1953. Originally developed during a failed attempt to manufacture marshmallows, the product evolved into a national staple, with approximately 2.6 billion pieces sold annually in Sweden.
Niklas Truedsson, Area President Growth at Cloetta Group, noted that this partnership follows the company's recent expansion efforts in New York, including the opening of a CandyKing store in the West Village. For Cloetta, which has operated since 1862, the move represents a strategic effort to replicate the brand's long-standing success in Northern Europe. The candy, which even traveled to the International Space Station with astronaut Christer Fuglesang in 2009, is now available for purchase at Target locations and through the retailer's website.
