Northern Kentucky University Overhauls MBA for the AI Era
With artificial intelligence and automation rapidly shifting the corporate landscape, Northern Kentucky University is launching a fully online MBA program this fall designed to prioritize human-centric leadership. The curriculum aims to bridge the gap between technical proficiency and the soft skills necessary to navigate complex, modern business environments.

Developed by the Haile College of Business in partnership with education technology firm Risepoint, the program moves away from siloed academic disciplines. Instead, it integrates marketing, finance, and supply chain management into an interdisciplinary framework. Students will learn to leverage AI tools while emphasizing four core pillars: critical thinking, emotional intelligence, storytelling, and professional agility. According to Dr. Abdullah Al-Bahrani, the associate dean for graduate programs, the goal is to produce leaders who do not merely react to industry shifts but actively guide teams through them.
The program structure reflects the needs of a regional workforce totaling approximately 1.2 million people across the Greater Cincinnati area. Courses are delivered in seven-week blocks to accommodate working professionals, offering concentrations in finance, leadership, project management, and human resources. The curriculum culminates in a project-based capstone where students present business strategies to faculty and alumni mentors, ensuring that theoretical knowledge is tested against real-world challenges before graduation.
