Pearson Acquires ITS to Expand Professional Assessment Reach
Pearson has acquired Baltimore-based Internet Testing Systems, a move designed to bolster its global assessment infrastructure. By integrating ITS’s specialized technology for test delivery and proctoring, the lifelong learning giant aims to deepen its presence in the professional certification market and refine its digital assessment capabilities.

The acquisition formalizes a long-standing commercial partnership between the two companies, with ITS transitioning into Pearson’s Professional Assessments division. This integration brings specialized expertise in remote proctoring and performance-based testing into Pearson’s broader portfolio, which already serves customers in nearly 200 countries.
Art Valentine, president of Assessment & Qualifications at Pearson, noted that the deal supports the company’s strategy to act as a trusted infrastructure provider for verified skills. Pat Ward, president of ITS, characterized the move as a natural evolution for a firm that has collaborated with Pearson since 2009. Both organizations intend to leverage their combined resources to pursue AI-driven improvements in testing integrity and candidate experience.
