New 'Out of Place' PSAs Target Early Alzheimer's Detection

Struggling to follow a recipe or misplacing familiar items are often brushed off as simple aging, but these subtle lapses can signal the onset of dementia. To bridge this gap, the Ad Council and the Alzheimer's Association have launched a new series of public service advertisements titled 'Out of Place.'

The campaign, which debuted on World Alzheimer's Day, expands the existing 'Some Things Come with Age' initiative. It specifically targets adults aged 35 to 54—the 'pre-care' demographic—who are frequently the first to notice cognitive shifts in parents or spouses. By highlighting disruptions in daily routines, the creative work aims to move families toward early medical evaluation rather than passive observation.

Currently, 7.4 million Americans aged 65 and older live with Alzheimer’s, a figure expected to nearly double by 2060. Since the campaign’s inception in 2023, it has generated over 8.2 million visits to 10Signs.org. Research indicates that exposure to these materials makes individuals three times more likely to distinguish between typical age-related memory lapses and symptoms requiring professional intervention. Dr. Elizabeth Edgerly of the Alzheimer's Association noted that early detection provides access to treatments and planning resources that significantly improve quality of life.
