Glacis Hands Over AI Governance Standard to CHAI and AIGovOps

Glacis Technologies is relinquishing control of its open-source AI verification standard, OVERT, to a new stewardship arrangement led by the Coalition for Health AI and the AIGovOps Foundation. The move aims to transition the royalty-free specification for runtime AI evidence into a neutral, community-governed technical resource.

The agreement establishes a framework where CHAI and the AIGovOps Foundation will jointly oversee the Observable Verification Evidence for Runtime Trust (OVERT) specification. While Glacis Technologies originally developed the standard to provide verifiable evidence of AI actions—such as security controls and policy enforcement—the company will now transition to a non-voting editorial role. This shift ensures that no single vendor dictates the criteria for operational evidence.

For healthcare organizations, the standard addresses a critical transparency gap. As AI systems move from passive data analysis to active decision-making, OVERT provides a technical format to record whether specific governance requirements, such as clinician review or data boundaries, were met during a live workflow. By housing the standard under CHAI and AIGovOps, the parties hope to foster broader industry adoption and refinement. The specification remains voluntary and does not serve as a regulatory certification, but rather as a tool for organizations to turn governance policies into executable, observable code.
