Raaka Shatters Motion Capture Record with 37-Person Simultaneous Shoot
Thirty-seven performers, ranging from a four-year-old child to a seventy-year-old, stepped onto a Los Angeles soundstage to make cinema history. The production of the film Raaka, directed by V. Arunkumar, officially secured a Guinness World Record on September 15 for the most people captured in real-time motion simultaneously.
To achieve this technical milestone, the production team deployed 92 optical motion-capture cameras within a specialized ecosystem. The setup integrated complex facial capture, real-time Unreal Engine visualization, and synchronized witness cameras to manage the massive data stream. The feat required a custom-built pipeline designed specifically to handle the scale of the production, moving beyond traditional industry standards.
Motion Capture Director Demian Gordon, who previously contributed to The Matrix and Planet of the Apes, noted that the project exceeded the volume and complexity of his past work. The official certificate was presented to lead actor Allu Arjun and director V. Arunkumar by Guinness World Records adjudicator Swapnil Dangrikar during a ceremony attended by the film's production team. Produced by Sun Pictures and featuring Deepika Padukone alongside Arjun, the film aims to demonstrate the rising technical ambition of Indian cinema on a global scale.
