Bank al Etihad Targets UAE Expansion via Abu Dhabi Financial Hub
Jordanian financial powerhouse Bank al Etihad is moving into the United Arab Emirates, signing a memorandum of understanding with Abu Dhabi’s Ethmar International Holding to establish a new banking entity within the Abu Dhabi Global Market, a move that marks a major escalation in the bank's regional growth strategy.

The proposed institution will operate under a Category 1 banking license, positioning itself to serve international clients and corporate entities navigating markets outside the UAE mainland. By leveraging the regulatory framework of the Abu Dhabi Global Market under the supervision of the Financial Services Regulatory Authority, the partnership aims to streamline cross-border transactions and deepen ties with institutional investors.
This expansion follows a period of rapid consolidation for the Amman-based bank. Since its founding in 1987, Bank al Etihad has bolstered its regional presence through a series of tactical maneuvers, including the 2024 expansion into Iraq and the 2025 merger with INVESTBANK. With total assets now approaching JOD 11 billion, the group intends to use this new platform to diversify its revenue streams while connecting its Jordanian operations to the broader financial ecosystem of the Emirates.
